This American bistro style restaurant known as The Countess is situated in the middle of a bunch of metal shipping containers, yes that's correct, SHIPPING CONTAINERS. The place is called "27 Boxes" in Melville, Johannesburg. It's the kind of place that is for adventurous people like myself. 27 Boxes has many shops and all of them are within shipping containers which is a very clever way to reuse these materials in my opinion.
The décor in The Countess has a hipster feel with copper railings, warm lighting, cushions on the metal chairs and wood in many places. There is a balcony and a good amount of seating for a cozy spot like this. Also, there is a display case for the desserts which is such a cool feature, definitely opens your mind and appetite to more after the main meal. Now that we have a vision about the place, lets talk about the food.
The offerings at this establishment will be a shock to your system considering the size but trust me, you should be here. There's so much to eat - Ribs, burgers, sandwiches, wings and much more, which are all packed with seasoning and flavour; you will definitely not leave hungry. Many restaurants neglect their side dishes but at The Countess, they pride themselves on having some desirable side dishes such as the truffle macaroni & cheese, Mexican corn on the cob and dirty fries. The dirty fries has bacon jam (mind blowing stuff (Side Note: I want the recipe)) mayo and cheese and I definitely finished those before my burger, which had a 220G beef patty, served on a brioche bun with bacon, mozzarella cheese, caramelized onions, sliced beets, barbeque aioli and fried pineapple. It really was next level and I even had some of my partners Chilli Burger after I was done with my meal. I enjoyed it right from the start to the end.
The staff members are civil and friendly and the kitchen is prompt with the meals. The food is definitely in line with the pricing and its a great place for everyone to be at - families, singles and couples. Overall I enjoyed my time here and I will be frequenting this location as often as I feel. So do yourselves a favour, go and a have a meal or a drink from their extensive drinks menu and check them out on Zomato too.
